In today's social media-driven world, young people are constantly forced to grapple with changing standards of beauty - often leaving them feeling bad about aspects of their own appearance. Join Theater Alliance for the stage adaptation of Toni Morrison's acclaimed novel, The Bluest Eye, which takes a historic view to this modern issue. Eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove wants nothing more than to be loved by her family and schoolmates. Instead, she faces constant ridicule and abuse. Blaming her dark complexion, she prays for blue eyes, sure that love will follow. The Bluest Eye paints a portrait of what it means to be young, female, and Black in 1940s Ohio, while inviting audiences of today to examine their own relationship to beauty standards, loneliness, and self-acceptance.
