"... There was still a lot to enjoy. I’m a sucker for Verdi, and while it becomes ever more evident that true Verdi singers are a rare breed these days, WNO assembled a cast — most of the singers in company debuts — that could at least hit the notes and make the thing go. The historicity of the sets helped create the illusion that we were hearing the singers at the premiere, who (obviously) didn’t quite know how Verdi singing went either."

"... Under the baton of WNO’s music director, Philippe Auguin, the WNO orchestra performed with vigor and grace, with only the horns slipping notably in spots, particularly during the famous chorus. In an extraordinarily successful evening, though, the glitches were easily forgotten, although we’d hope they won’t show up in successive performances."

"... Conductor Philippe Auguin led a spirited, committed orchestral performance. And the chorus, ever-present in Nabucco, was superb, singing in harmony and in unison, raising up great, granitic walls of sound in one moment, weeping contemplative, sorrowful lines in the next. The "Va, pensiero" chorus, in which the enslaved Israelites long for their distant home, received its customary encore and a third hearing, as well, after the piece ended, sung a cappella by soloists and chorus--with the Italian lyrics projected as supertitles, an invitation for the audience to sing along."
