Directed by Karin Abromaitis, the show features Rick Hammerly as the likably obstreperous Cat. But the real star is Dr. Seuss, whose rhyming wit - spoken by the play's characters and by a disembodied narrator (NPR's Guy Raz) - reverberates through the script. "...It's not often that I walk into a theater and say "Wow!" That's exactly what happened when I first saw the stage for Adventure Theatre MTC's production of Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat. Set Designer Luciana Stecconi created a stage that is an exact copy from the pages of this classic children's story. My daughter walked on the stage and said, "Look mommy, I'm in the book! I'm in 'Cat in the Hat'." I smiled at her and remained calm, but inside I thought: "This is so cool. I feel like I'm standing in the book too!""

The principal lesson of Adventure Theatre’s curiously inert and un-Adventuresome production of the Dr. Seuss classic appears to be watch out for mom, since the shenanigans our laid-back Cat in the Hat (Rick Hammerly) proposes to Sally (Jessica Shearer) and her brother (Tyler Herman) are so mild and slo-mo that they could be offensive only to a fish (the excellent Alex Vernon).
