Yellowman and Riches

Yellowman and Riches

Anacostia Playhouse
2020 Shannon Place SE Washington

Yellowman depicts an African American woman who dreams of a life beyond the confines of her small town Southern upbringing, whose fate tragically entwines with that of a light-skinned man. The play explores the negative associations surrounding male blackness and the effect of these racial stereotypes on black women and the African-American community. Riches tells the story of David and Carolyn Rich who seem to have it all, until on their anniversary getaway, Carolyn unexpectedly announces that she wants a divorce. Featuring sharp humor and well-timed, weighted dialogue, the tale twists and turns its way to a chilling end. The two emotional, hard-hitting works come to the Anacostia Playhouse in D.C.
