The Gifts of the Magi

The Gifts of the Magi

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET)
31 W Patrick St Frederick

Of all the heart-tugging holiday tales, none touches the spirit quite so deftly as O. Henry's story of an impoverished young couple secretly shopping for each other's Christmas gifts. Now this tear-in-your-eye tale is a lively stage musical The Gifts of the Magi. Set in 1905 New York, struggling newlyweds make personal sacrifices to purchase presents for one another ... only to realize that their love and devotion are the true gifts of the season. Also woven into the show is another one of O. Henry's ironic masterpieces, The Cop and the Anthem, in which a cheerful hobo does his best to get arrested so he can spend Christmas in a nice, warm jail cell. All of it is tied together by a newsboy-narrator who adds his own wry musical comments to this charming and spirited show from Maryland Ensemble Theatre.
