Sarah and James – a photographer and a journalist – share a passion for the adrenaline rush caused from reporting in the world’s deadliest war zones. As reporters, their lives are devoted to telling the toughest stories from across the globe. But how do you separate yourself from the action you witness? How do you create an impartial lens? When their own story takes a sudden turn during a bomb blast in Iraq, the wounded Sarah returns home with James to the safety of New York. Pressed to consider settling into a more “conventional” life, Sarah must face her addiction to the drama and chaos of war.

"... The theater was packed, and it’s hardly a surprise. This is a remarkably well-written, well-directed, well-staged play. Messner and Hylon, Richard’s “Sid and Nancy of journalism,” are well-matched in intensity and humor. There are moments of genuine passion between the two as they navigate the obstacles of their own relationship. Virtually every punch line, however subtle, got a laugh, just by virtue of effective delivery. Moore was brilliant as a sweet, hilariously dense young woman in love with a much older man (and Whalen played off the mid-life crisis with a humorous mix of affection, authenticity, and lust), but it was her moments of startling sincerity that were truly affecting."

Some things just can’t be put in a frame. Intimacy, for example, or the messiness of normal life. After a devastating bomb injury in Iraq, war photographer Sarah Goodwin (Beth Hylton) is forced to come out from behind the lens in Donald Marguiles’ searing drama Time Stands Still. Everyman Theatre’s production of the 2010 Tony award-winning play hits all the right notes. Under the graceful direction of Jason Loewith, Time Stands Still is a fierce, fearless examination of scars both visible and the raw, bumpy ones buried deep inside.

"... Director Jason Loewith (making his Everyman debut) has assembled a superb cast and deftly directs them. Beth Hylton is just plain spectacular playing Sarah. She can joke about her new PHANTOM OF THE OPERA look and then later talk about "blood on my lens". She leaves and breathes for her work. When she's confronted by Mandy about why she doesn't do more when she sees so much tragedy, Sarah responds, "We create truth, not save it." She's a extremely difficult character to play but Hylton nails it."
