Spinoza's Solitude

Spinoza's Solitude

Theater J
1529 Sixteenth Street, NW Washington

Theater J, one of the most respected Jewish theaters in the world, presents a workshop production of Colin Greer's new play Spinoza's Solitude. The Dutch Jewish philosopher's ideas on God, man and morality were considered radical among his 17th century contemporaries, and caused him to be excommunicated from the Jewish community. They also caused Spinoza to be considered, by future generations, one of philosophy's great rationalists. During his short lifetime, Spinoza wrote several key works, including his then-scandolous Theological-Political Treatise, and his most famous work, the Ethics (published posthumously). Spinoza's Solitude explores the impact of Spinoza's banishment on the fragile yet formidable man himself.
