A historical tragedy by Spain’s greatest literary figure, the play is set at the siege of Numantia in 133 B.C. when Roman troops led by Escipion exterminate the people of Arevaco. Through allegorical characters, the play addresses themes of nationalism but ultimately speaks about freedom. Staged with young people from Parla, Spain, the production includes a rock band and a cast that brings vitality and warmth to this brilliant new adaptation of a classical gem, whose universal message about human rights and freedom of expression speaks across the ages.
