"...Although “Liberty Smith” tosses in a couple of totally inappropriate off-color references, there’s no concealing that the show seems designed for those seeking the comfort of a tried and true style of all-ages entertainment. Surely that is why the infamous traitor Benedict Arnold, played here with outrageously hammy relish by James Konicek, bears a resemblance less to a real person than to a dastardly lion. And if you don’t know who Scar is, you might want to get with the program."

"...By all means, if you simply want to be entertained and revel in gloriously anthemic music – with 23 musical numbers! – and a Broadway-caliber cast and set design, Liberty Smith is your ticket to ride. The whole production team deserves praise for their work, from Court Watson's evocative set designs to Wade Laboissonniere's inspired costumes to Denis Jones's playful choreography, with assist in fight-scene dances by Brad Waller. Director Matt August does yeoman's work in keeping everything running smoothly."

"...While Liberty Smith is cute and entertaining all around, I was surprised to hear a few not so PG words in the dialogue. It’s nothing that should keep families away from the show but it’s definitely worth a heads-up. Regardless, the opening night of Liberty Smith received a rousing standing ovation, a sight I believe the show will see many times in the foreseeable future. It takes what would of probably have been an entertaining animated feature and turns it into a very enjoyable spectacle of song, dance, and American history."

"...The show’s general drift is that without Liberty’s unacknowledged help, none of these historical icons would’ve done what they did in history books—a cute conceit, though one that gets labored in a two-and-a-half hour telling. Happily, the cast is game, the staging passable, and if the pleasantly rousing songs are hampered somewhat by pedestrian lyrics (at one point a character sings of “sleeping in a bed of straws” because “straw” wouldn’t rhyme with “patriotic cause”), my audience didn’t seem to mind much. Mind you, their heartiest laugh came on the line “you shot me in the ass,” so perhaps deft phrasing wasn’t what they were looking for."

Liberty Smith follows the picaresque tale of the young adventure seeker, Liberty, who starts out the first wooer of Martha Washington née Dandridge (not Dandruff as is the overused joke), then apprentice to Benjamin Franklin, then counselor at the court of Louis XVI, and even editor and writing “doctor” to Thomas Jefferson.
