"...Richard's zesty performance is the highlight of director Jessica Lefkow's "Mousetrap," which- aside from the odd bit of stilted acting and some dreadful English accents - is pleasant enough. We're not pursuing high art here: With its determined detective, red-herring clues, over-defined eccentric suspects and tidy puzzle plot (a spin on a locked-room mystery), Christie's 1952 thriller is a cleverly built entertainment, robust enough to have run continually in London for more than half a century. If you have never seen this legendary play, and you don't know whodunit, you could do worse than to catch the 1st Stage rendition."

"...Despite the fact that it represents the script faithfully, this production doesn't have enough of the thing that has made "The Mousetrap" the world's longest-running show for 58 years: suspense. Director Jessica Lefkow never quite succeeds at creating a frightening ambience by having her characters threaten one another verbally. When the skis that Sergeant Trotter uses to ski into the snowbound guest house disappear, the sense that seven people are stranded and that there is a murderer among them barely creates a fuss, much less panic."

"...The eight-member cast is solid, performing especially well as an ensemble. Standouts include Suzanne Richard as the overbearing older Mrs. Boyle showing absolute distain for all others with the flip of a hand and arch of an eyebrow. Jennifer Weinreich is a cheery new bride, a fluffer of pillows who putters serenely but with a deep well of emotions that appear over time. John Stange is her somewhat condescending husband who can boil over at mere trifles."

The Mousetrap may be Dame Agatha’s most famous drama due to its record run (ongoing since 1952) in London’s West End. While it lacks the intelligence and style of Witness for the Prosecution, The Mousetrap is a tightly crafted and enjoyable piece of theatre.
