The Ingalls are hosting some of their friends and relatives for a pre-Christmas dinner when a sudden storm threatens to cut off access to the town from which most of the guests have come. It ends on Christmas Day, when Mr. Edwards arrives after going to town to find Santa Claus who was unable to visit because of the storm. Celebrate the holidays with this heartwarming adventure that shows that the simple things make living worthwhile as Mary and Laura learn the true meaning of Christmas.

Packaging an anecdote about a cozily hardscrabble prairie yuletide, James DeVita’s script introduces the figure of Uncle George, a Civil War veteran who is Pa Ingalls’s brother. Haunted by memories, Uncle George hovers mutely on the sidelines of the Ingalls family’s festivities until the attentiveness of young Laura cheers him up, leading to a joyous square dance. The incident drives home the play’s message: that Christmas is about generosity and togetherness, not material treats."

Prairie girls are in the house and will steal your heart in the Adventure Theatre/MTC production of A Little House Christmas. The simple story and quiet style balance today’s frenetic pace. At the onset, the family struggles to fetch water into the house with the sisters wondering if big city houses really have water that flows from inside spigots! The production is filled with simple nuggets of goodness like that throughout.
