In The Rocky Horror Show, two clean cut young people, Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss, run into trouble on their way to visit an old college professor. They seek help at the freaky Frankenstein mansion. However, little do they know that the mansion is inhabited by alien transsexuals from the planet Transylvania and Dr. Frank N Furter is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments. Featuring the popular songs “Dammit Janet,” “Sweet Transvestite,” and “Time Warp,” this show, which inspired the popular film, has become a cult classic and is a step in a new direction for the Savoyards.

"... The Washington Savoyards paid special attention to the Rocky culture as they opened their production of The Rocky Horror Show at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. The audience on H-Street maybe a bit too hip to show up to a performance in heels and corsets as they demonstrated this past weekend but the vibe was still there with bags of props sold to patrons in the lobby and a healthy encouragement from the cast for audience members to shout some of the more commonly known Rocky call-outs. Director Jay D. Brock and company understand that the audience entertains themselves as much as the actors on stage and have created a production that plays to the Rocky Horror fans out there."

As Dr. Frank N Furter, Welsh is a memorable sight — tall, lean, and committed. He’s an apt leader for the dance numbers, and although some sporadic missed moments in the live sound mixing on Sunday night failed to carry Welsh’s voice to the back row, it’s clear he’s got pipes as well. Although every performer does solid work, Tim Rogan is also worth nothing as the monster Adonis called Rocky Horror, and Chip Hewitt does strong double-duty as bad boy idiot Eddie and the tardy-to-the-party Dr. Scott.
