Actor, writer and educator, Anu Yadav ('Capers) shifts between multiple characters in her latest solo piece, Meena's Dream. Set to a live, original score combining South Indian classical music with jazz and indie folk, the play tells the story of Meena, a nine-year-old Indian-American girl who wishes her mother, Aisha, could get the medicine she needs. Her plight is complicated when, at night, the Hindu God Lord Krishna himself appears, entreating her help in his war against the worry machine. Patrick Crowley (In Pursuit of Me) directs this world premiere at Silver Spring's Round House Theatre.

"...Meena's Dream takes a look at the impossible struggle of a single parent immigrant family surviving in America. The story is told form the perspective of 9 year old Meena, who deals with her mother's illness using both her daydreams and nightmares. Hindu God Krishna joins Meena as her spirit guide in her quest to gain medicine for her mother. Throughout the play Meena must fight against the fears Krisha calls "the worry machine" so that she can stay strong enough to help her mother."

Anu Yadav plays about a dozen characters in 90 minutes with impeccable dramatic and comedic timing. Her monologues set to music are stirring and thought provoking – her nightmare sequences are like childhood memories of awakening in a sweat. Yadav performs with a dance-like grace – Meena’s Dream (and Meena herself) are hard to categorize.
