"...Instead, the attention is hogged by director-choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, for this ultra-slick “Joseph” has been directed almost to bits. It’s lighted like a rock concert and designed like a video game, and although Blankenbuehler’s dances are crisp and impeccably drilled, the mechanical precision and relentless speed can make the cast appear like soulless pistons. At its worst, this rapid-fire, high-tech “Joseph” comes off like an infernal machine."
