Late one summer in a Baltimore working-class neighborhood somewhere in the mid-90s, the three Peck sisters reunite with their chain-smoking mother Genevieve, a retired nurse. Middle sister Delilah is getting married for the third time and the unlikely wedding party (more the punchline for a dirty joke) gathers for the holy day. Middle sister Delilah is a Girl Scout Leader, erotic apparel designer, and frontwoman of the Hamilton Harlots rock band. Youngest sister Angel is a nun with anxiety issues. Eldest sister Danni repairs guitars in New York City, and is the only Peck to have made it out of Baltimore. Fasten your seatbelts...its going to be a bumpy ride.

"...Isn't there a statute of limitations on guilt? When a mother is involved, the answer is always and indefinitely no. When Delilah, the middle child and 'bad daughter' of the three Peck sisters, announces her wedding to her third husband it brings an unlikely band of characters together for the first time after a long-standing estrangement. Chain smoking, retired nurse mother Genevieve, with her down-home 'Bawlmer Hon' sound stirs up the pot as her eldest daughter Danni the NYC Luthier, and her youngest daughter, Angel the beer-drinking, none-too-bright convent novice, return home as bride's maids. Venus Theatre's Grieving For Genevieve - a peculiar family drama - is not without its extremely coarse language and high strung tensions, and certainly puts a fresh perspective on the 'fun' of dysfunction."

"...Nicely orchestrated by producer and director Deborah Randall, Grieving for Genevieve is a slow-building story with relatable characters no matter your class or lot in life. Act two does allow for a satisfying personal resolution for each daughter/character. However the final ending is somewhat abrupt and therefore anticlimactic. Still, this play showcases strong performances by four of Washington's bravest, most committed actresses. Whether you're a Georgetown socialite or starving artist, you will identify with one of the women in this play. And if that weren't enough, Venus Theatre more than deserves the patronage, for its dogged commitment and obvious talent."

If you want a sweet, quiet, sedate time at the theater, keep driving up the highway, because this ain’t it. Grieving for Genevieve is a shot of adrenaline where three rambunctious sisters are thrown back together, for better or worse, to deal with the middle sister’s upcoming wedding.
