A serial killer, the mother of one of his victims and the killer's psychologist are drawn together in Bryony Lavery's critically acclaimed Broadway drama Frozen. Known for her psychologically and spiritually probing work, Lavery (Illyria) plumbs the depths of the human spirit for a "big, brave, compassionate play about grief, revenge, forgiveness and bearing the unbearable" (The Guardian). Nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play during its initial Broadway run, Frozen tells three parallel stories that slowly become intertwined on a dark journey that somehow manages to reveal a glimmer of hope.

"...The Anacostia Playhouse's production of Lavery's Frozen might not exude the unbearable rage and pain and terror that the brutal murder of a child elicits, but it is well worth a trip to an ever-changing Anacostia. As the story progresses, its three fine actors find their flow in the story's raw tension, pulling the audience into its quest for understanding and forgiveness."

This Frozen traces the intersecting journeys of three characters trapped within different forms of emotional stasis. Nancy Shirley (played by Anacostia Playhouse co-founder Adele Robey) has been reconstructing the circumstances of her 10-year-old daughter’s abduction and murder for so many years, she now defines herself through grief. Ralph (Frank Bliss), an abuse victim himself, wastes away behind bars with no sense of remorse for kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and slaughtering several children.
