"...The musical’s theme — striving for connection but fearing commitment — isn’t the only way in which this Company feels timely and relevant. Bobby, originally a single, male Manhattanite, is reimagined here as Bobbie (an appealing Britney Coleman), a woman who struggles to find real connection in a “city of strangers” hunched over their smartphones."

"...The score remains pure genius. Sondheim captures, so brilliantly, the truths about love, friendship, and the complexities of relationships as if he can see inside every human heart. "Sorry-Grateful, "Side by Side by Side"-there isn't a bad song in the bunch. Sondheim's music and the performances of the entire cast make this treasure of a musical well worth revisiting. Go now because this is the only stop in the DMV area before the tour ends in October."

"...Well, it’s been almost 35 years (a magic show-themed number) since then and Company has gone through yet another refresh. Say goodbye to Bobby and hello to Bobbie. A gender-bender twist has turned the main character female but that’s not all. Fans of the show will be familiar with the engaged couple Paul and Amy. Amy is now Jamie, and the soon-to-be married pair is now gay. And, in keeping with the gender of the central character in his modern telling, the three women from all productions up until now who Bobby had been dating have been replaced by men who are now dating Bobbie. The result of these changes makes for some good theatre and modernizes the production (cell phones anyone?) in such a manner that, for a show that came out in the 1970’s, will appeal to current audiences in so many nuanced ways that it’s just something one must see to experience."

"...There is no show without Britney Coleman’s Bobbie and wow, she does not disappoint. Coleman perfectly encapsulates a woman who’s just trying to figure her life out while still meeting her own needs and those of her friends, while struggling with the reality of always being number three. I loved following her through Bobbie’s journey, being with her every step of the way, and feeling like I was being let in on the secret to life. Her rendition of the Sondheim beloved, “Being Alive”, was a stunning conclusion, feeling well-earned as Bobbie realizes what love is for all along."
