"...And no mistake, Mitchell is still majestic. She sings with verve and pop, swinging with gusto through Smith standards like “Gimme a Pigfoot” and ruminating in long, beautiful phrases through the bluesy, jazzy tunes by Jones and Keith Rawls. The “character” Mitchell creates in this fast-moving musical collage is eternally sassy and lonely, whether cuttin’ up as Smith in a vintage vaudeville routine or moaning through a heartbreak ballad as the modern woman referred to as Bern."
