"...Weill's music is certainly theatrical enough, with its rat-a-tat pulses, full-throated choruses and lyrical refrains. Pianist and musical director Paul Leavitt anchors the sound, supported by Ephriam Wolfolk on upright bass and, occasionally, Paul Aebersold on accordion as this 1972 show charts Weill's two-staged career. The first act features the European shows penned with Brecht; the second draws from the sunnier American musicals Weill wrote with Ira Gershwin, Langston Hughes, Ogden Nash and more."

"...The In Series mounts another fabulous production in their stellar 2012-2013 season, tripping through 30 years of superior opera by composer Kurt Weill in his journey from Berlin to Broadway. This is billed as a cabaret revue of selected songs from his career, but it is so much more. You might say you see 12 operas for the price of one, including his arguably most famous work The Threepenny Opera, which he wrote with playwright Bertolt Brecht, his frequent collaborator. The revue also includes Rise and Fall of the City of Mahogany also with Brecht, as well as One Touch of Venus and Lady in the Dark, which he wrote with American lyricists Ogden Nash and Ira Gershwin respectively."

"...Directed sparingly by Abel Lopez, this intriguing show was further enhanced by the absolutely spot-on performance of pianist and show music director Paul Leavitt who performed heroically and masterfully throughout, demonstrating his incredible yet understated grasp of Weill's complex musical idiom. He was assisted by bassist Ephriam Wolfolk who added depth to the melodic lines while serving, quite effectively as a subtle percussion section as well. Icing on the cake was the smooth, effortless performance of Paul Aebersold on the accordion, an instrument that provided the perfect backdrop to Weill's cabaret-style numbers as well as mood setting background music prior to the actual performance itself."
