In the sweltering 1950s Southwest, headstrong and eternally single Lizzie Curry dreams of a life beyond her small town. When a charming stranger named Starbuck swaggers into town, he brings the promise to end the region's drought and awakens Lizzie to the promise she holds within. Ford's Theatre presents this classic American musical about cowboys, confidence and courtship, based on The Rainmaker and featuring a lively score from the creators of The Fantasticks. Local favorite Tracy Lynn Olivera stars as Lizzie.

"...Yet 110 in the Shade is quaint, predictable, old-fashioned and outdated. It’s simple and sappy. Set on a summer’s day in a drought-stricken town in 1950s Texas, the only things to discuss appear to be the heat, my God, the heat; the need for rain; poker; and for Lizzie to find a man, posthaste."

"...Why isn’t 110 in the Shade produced more? After seeing the Ford’s Theatre production you will be asking the same question. Tracy Lynn Olivera’s performance alone is reason enough to see this show, but when you add in her cast mates singing the underrated Jones and Schmidt score and attractive physical production, you will fully appreciate why Broadway should have been singing “Lizzie’s Comin’ Home” as opposed to “Hello Dolly.”"
