Dedicated to the memory of George Washington-Patriot, President, Mason - the Memorial was dedicated on May 12, l932, as an expression of the Masonic fraternity's faith in the principles of civil and religious liberty and orderly government. The Theatre: The Washington Family Crest is displayed over the stage of the Auditorium. The stately Auditorium, with its striking veined marble columns and quiet dignity provides a fitting setting for Masonic and cultural events. Displayed on the stage of the Theatre is the original Bicentennial Portrait of Washington painted by Hattie Elizabeth Burdette. The painting was commissioned by the United States Bicentennial Commission to commemorate the bicentennial of Washington's birth. The painting features Washington in the Masonic Regalia he wore for the laying of the cornerstone of the United States Capitol in 1793.
