"...As for the acting: Rand brings assuredness to his range of disconcerting characters, and Frank Britton and Sue Struve turn in poised portraits of Alaide's parents. The other performances - including Spears's mood-swinging Alaide - might, in another play, seem too broad or superficial. Here, they merge smoothly enough with an intriguing but ultimately wearying dreamscape."

"...Rebecca Holderness's production for the surrealism-loving Spooky Action Theater is a jumble, but it's a stylish, visually arresting jumble with a trio of compelling performances at its center. To what extent Mundy Spears' Alaide is a femme fatale in her waking life is unclear, but in the realm of her fantasies, she vamps it up to 11, and it's fun to watch Spears channel Jessica Rabbit. She has a volatile chemistry with Randolph Curtis Rand, who appears alternately as Alaide's fiancee, her husband, and her lover. Rand has an unstable quality that suggests a dangerous guy successfully impersonating a civilized, well-mannered one. As Madame Clessi, Dane Figueroa Edidi makes for an appropriately impish spirit-guide."

"..."Mysterious and evocative": these were the words that Spooky Action Theater's Artistic Director Richard Henrich used to describe their production of Nelson Rodrigues' The Wedding Dress. And after racking my brain, I've been unable to come up with a better description. The Wedding Dress is a beautiful piece of theater, with striking image after striking image parading across the stage as the plot slowly coalesces over the course of the evening."

"...The Wedding Dress is no stiff drawing-room drama of stilted, ritual manners. It is a tasty, stylish mogul ski run over some tricky terrain. You won't be let down; the unexpected bumps are lots of the fun."

"...The direction by Rebecca Holderness is bold and assured, creating a vivid impression with the kind of glee that comes in discovering a new voice."

The Wedding Dress

Only perfect-pitch direction and excellent casting could get this quirky expressionist work off the ground. Luckily Spooky Theater has just what it takes to get juices flowing like you wouldn’t believe.
Characters deal with infidelity, prostitution, murder, loose-legged women writhe and grind against the pillars– it’s all covered in this Brazilian gem, sprinkled with hints of solicitation of a minor, mega doses of insanity and over all mayhem.
