"...With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, and a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin, the 2022 musical is quite different as well with diverse casting, increasingly complicated backstories, and a non-binary character (Daphne)."

"...The first national tour of Some Like It Hot delivers everything theatre lovers crave: show-stopping dance numbers, infectious energy, and enough glitter to transport audiences straight back to the golden age of American musicals. While the production occasionally stumbles in its second act, the overall experience remains a thrilling testament to Broadway craftsmanship."

"...Imagine everything you expect a classic Broadway musical to be: the glamor, the harmonies, the leave-you-breathless dancing, and of course a story that will touch your soul. “Some Like It Hot” at The National Theatre is just that and more. The production’s veteran cast takes the meaning of the word performance to a new level in each moment they have on stage. “Some Like It Hot” is a classic story seamlessly reimagined for the stage and a can’t miss dynamic extravaganza of talent."

"...Shimmying at the National Theatre through Dec 7th, Some Like it Hot! is a new stage musical version of the classic 1959 Billy Wilder movie. Thankfully, it offers most of what one would hope for in a musical theatre experience. To start with, there’s dancing— so much splashy, flashy, exquisite dancing— amid convoluted love plots and chase numbers with gangsters, guns, sparkling gowns, bellhops and revolving-doors, all set against the shimmering backdrop of prohibition-era 1933 in Chicago and San Diego. The songs are catchy, the choreography is fun, the sets are stylish and the acting is over the top. What’s not to love?"

"...A sophisticated, slightly sweet, and satiric tone sweeps over the characters of the luxuriously professional production of the musical Some Like it Hot, now touring at The National Theatre. From the moment that the show opens with the ode to self-gratification and excess “What Are You Thirsty For?” to the hymn to misbehavior “Let’s Be Bad” to the rousing finale “Baby, Let’s Get Good” ---this show grabs the audience and never lets it go."

"...There’s something deliciously decadent about heading to the National Theatre for Some Like It Hot: a world of high-kick tap shoes, jazzy brass, glam Art-Deco sets, and a story that careens from speakeasies in Chicago to more razzle-dazzle shenanigans in San Diego. In short: this musical knows exactly what it wants to be — and for much of the evening, it hits its mark with swagger."

"...Some Like It Hot, playing at the National Theatre until December 7, is a jazzy, snazzy, dazzling modern take on classic Hollywood. Based on the 1959 comedy film starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis, the 2022 Broadway musical keeps its setting, plot, charm, and wit, but updates it with contemporary sensibilities, bringing out issues of sexual identity, which, progressive or even shocking at the time, were played only for laughs in the movie. Best of all, it piles on what the original only sketched in: song, dance, jazz, and razzmatazz! And doing so, it pays glorious homage to every kind of glamorous musical of the 1930s."
