Sister Act Reviews
Washington Post- Somewhat Recommended
"...It?s an exuberant setup for a classic fish-out-of-water tale, and the Ford?s Theatre production, under the direction of Broadway veteran Jeff Calhoun, is colorful and lively, with stunning stained-glass sets and a choir of singers in bell-bottoms. But the book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner loses some of the movie?s luster in the transformation of dry wit and subtle spirit into exaggerated gags and plotty filler. The result is an overstuffed two-and-a-half hours that should feel like Christmas morning but often drags like Sunday mass."

"...Silly, fun, and joyful, Sister Act at the historic Ford's Theatre is unapologetic in its celebration of self, choice, and sisterhood. The type of break from reality that the DMV could use right now, this production, playing through May 17, is an invitation for us all to find our voices and just be Fabulous, Baby!"
MetroWeekly- Recommended
"...Mallon pours such endearing vulnerability and determination into Eddie?s bold declaration of love for Deloris, ?I Could Be That Guy,? that he certainly sways the audience?s affections. He also benefits from the harmonious backup provided by the show?s fun, colorful ensemble, without whom Sister Act might have fallen flat."

"...Director and choreographer Jeff Calhoun and his designers and cast have taken this silly premise and made it sparkle. The story began its life in 1992 as a non-musical movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, while the musical adaptation by Alan Menken (music), Glenn Slater (lyrics), Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner (book) premiered in Los Angeles in 2006, opened in London in 2009, and subsequently ran on Broadway, with Douglas Carter Beane's book revisions, for more than a year."

"...Fun, uplifting, and yes, frivolous, Sister Act is a musical remake of the famously successful 1992 hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg. The historic Ford's Theater, which also houses a museum based on Abraham Lincoln's legacy, is a tourist destination and is known for producing non-controversial shows for the general public. However, this production's wide appeal doesn't take away from its entertainment factor. With original music by Alan Menkin, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner-the plot of Sister Act is engaging, the singing is top-notch, and the actors shine."
