Continuing a beloved tradition for the winter holidays, Folger Consort celebrates with festive music from Spain and Portugal. The performance will showcase lush, multi-voiced choral compositions set to sacred texts by the 16th-century Portuguese composer Vicente Lusitano, considered to be the first published Black composer of European music. Resplendent Joy also offers lively seasonal villançicos (early Spanish Christmas carols) and engaging instrumental music for vihuela, a 15th-century Spanish stringed instrument; organ; and mixed ensembles.
