Seasonal Disorder

Washington Improv Theater (WIT) is kick-starting the holiday season in the District with the launch of Seasonal Disorder, a four-week festival of long-form improvisation performances exploring, extolling, exploiting, and maybe even exterminating themes prevalent during the holiday season. Seasonal Disorderr features a rotating line-up of new shows by WIT's core improv ensembles-Caveat, Commonwealth, Jackie, iMusical, onesixtyone, Season Six-as well as the premiere of new improvised performance The Greatest Story Never Told and a Christmas-revamp of WIT's slasher-film-inspired show Die! Die! Die! Ho! Ho! Ho!. Seasonal Disorder showcases numerous DC indie improv troupes and two New York-based teams (both in town just for one night a piece). Seasonal Disorder runs December 1 - December 31, 2011, with performances Thursday - Saturday at 8pm and 9:30pm, and Fridays and Saturdays at 11pm. All performances at WIT's home stage at Source (1835 14th Street NW, WDC).

"The holidays can be crazy stressful," says WIT Artistic/Executive Director Mark Chalfant, "so it's easy to lose your mirth. WIT's Seasonal Disorder serves to inject joy and humor back into the season. All performances are a great escape activity or a gather-point for friends, family, or coworkers."

Description:Seasonal Disorder at Washington Improv Theater is a hilariously hot mess of improv comedy served up just in time for the holidays. All shows are the perfect escape from the chaos of christmahannukwanzika. The revolution (and the holidays) will be improvised.

Seasonal Disorderwill feature original improv performances such as these:

WIT ensemble Jackie has cooked up the epicurean delight Holiday Feast. After collecting, Jackie players will craft a show incorporating narrative ideas and conversation topics from the audience set at a holiday dinner-complete with all the delectable live-food trimmings. (Jackie features five players who have performed improv together for the last four years.)

Members of the iMusical ensemble are inviting their friends home to WIT for the holidays for mix 'n match, made 'em up musical madness! At each show, audience suggestions inspire a fully improvised musical performed by iMusical's crack singer-songwriter-improvisor-players and special guests from DC and NYC.

WIT ensemble Commonweath presents Das X-Mas Reboot, a remount of their popular "Das Boot" format with a holiday twist. This trippy multi-layered theatrical tapestry keeps all the Commonweath players onstage for the entire performance, weaving overlapping scenes together before the audiences' eyes.

WIT specializes in long-form improv, which emphasizes the development of ongoing narrative and character relationships by the improvisational performers ("players"). Every show is completely unscripted, with players typically working within a general framework and drawing ideas and inspiration from the audience to build the performance. WIT's improv ensembles experiment with different improv styles, structures, and approaches to crafting scenes and telling stories.

WIT encourages attending shows with friends, family, and colleagues. To this end WIT is extending an especially low group-sales offer for all Seasonal Disorder performances: groups of 5 or more pay only $5 per ticket (online sales only).
