Arena Stage Hosts 3-Day Celebration for Oklahoma!
Shattering even more records, Arena Stage's production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! has been seen by 100,000 people and counting, including seats filled and tickets sold for both engagements of the critically acclaimed production. In recognition of this tremendous milestone, Arena Stage is hosting a three-day community celebration featuring $45 tickets to all remaining performances. The celebration features a limited-time price, which ensures that all who have been interested in seeing the production can secure their seats and become part of making theater history in the nation's capital. Now in its final weeks, the 2010 Helen Hayes Outstanding Resident Musical must close October 2, 2011.
The three-day celebration begins Wednesday, September 7 at 12:01 a.m. and continues until Friday, September 9 at 11:59 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Sales Office (1101 Sixth St., SW, D.C.) or by phone at 202-488-3300 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and online at www.arenastage.org. Tickets are offered on a first come, first served basis, and it is anticipated that all remaining tickets for the run will sell out.
"Clearly, Molly Smith's production of Oklahoma! has found a way to introduce this show to a whole new audience-and, I might add, also thrilled audiences who already knew Oklahoma!" says Ted Chapin, President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company. "Nothing makes me happier than to experience a dazzlingly fresh production of one of the classic musicals that form the foundation of this office. Bravo to everyone connected with Arena Stage's production!"
"I'm thrilled that Arena continues to reach unprecedented milestones artistically and in its ability to attract audiences to its grand facility in Southwest," says D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray. "The impact that Oklahoma! has had on its loyal District theater-goers and on the growing economy of the waterfront speaks volumes to the city's investment in the arts. District residents love a good show and I look forward to Arena staging many more that will keep the crowds coming for the benefit of the magnificent theater and the District's economy."
"Arena Stage's production of Oklahoma! is a phenomenon unlike any other," says Linda Levy Grossman, President and CEO of The Helen Hayes Awards. "As far as we can tell, by reaching 100,000 people, not only has it generated more audiences in the shortest amount of time than any other resident production in the Washington area, but it has also introduced thousands of children and adults to the distinctive beauty of live theater, and has inspired audiences to return to the theater again and again."
