Cool Off With Return of Aquarium at Imagination Stage

Jun 17, 2011

After a successful run in January at Imagination Stage, Aquarium, with its sheep, giant jellyfish and lemon sky, returns in July to captivate the youngest of audiences with an interactive play designed especially for them.

Aquarium runs weekends in Imagination Stage's Christopher and Dana Reeve Studio Theatre July 9 through 31 at 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Appropriate for ages one through five, tickets are $10, with a $5 lap seat for children under 12 months. Tickets may be purchased online at, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301-280-1660.

"We are so excited to bring Aquarium back to Imagination Stage after its sold-out run in January and February! And what better time to talk of the ocean, fish and sandy beaches, to see the flying jelly fish, and to experience the world of Aquarium than in the heavy heat of summer? Come and explore the natural world with your child as you have never seen it before," encourages Kathryn Chase Bryer, Associate Artistic Director and head of early childhood programming at Imagination Stage.

Hyla Matthews Heyniger, who originated the role of Calypso in Aquarium's January production, will return to the show with newcomer Dylan Meyers as Jack.

Heyniger is an actress, comedian and teacher who, before moving to Washington in 2009, performed on the Los Angeles comedy and improv theater scene, as well as in films and commercials. Over the course of five years, she completed training programs with The Groundlings Theater and Second City LA, and performed for a year in the prestigious Groundlings Sunday Company sketch troupe.

Myers received his BFA in Theatre from Western Kentucky University, and spent a few years traveling as an actor and teaching artist with the Hampstead Stage Co. and the KY Shakespeare Festival. Other recent and local credits include 1001 with Rorschach Theatre, The Ramayana with Constellation Theatre, and Mojo with Studio Theatre's 2ndStage.

In addition to Aquarium, the summer offerings for Early Childhood at Imagination Stage include the very popular Sunday Fun-Days. These single session workshops each explore a favorite book titles to engage children and parents in multi-sensory play. Summer sessions start at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings from June 26 through August 14.
