Keegan's An Irish Carol Returns; Beloved Holiday Show

Nov 30, 2016
An Irish Carol

The Keegan Theatre's holiday classic AN IRISH CAROL, written by Dublin native and Keegan company member Matthew J. Keenan, returns for its sixth annual season. A beloved holiday tradition that has played to sold out audiences since premiering in 2011, AN IRISH CAROL runs December 16- 31, 2016 at the Andrew Keegan Theatre in Washington, DC.

Keegan audiences return year after year to enjoy this wildly popular production; it has become a tradition to bring friends and family to Keegan over the holidays to enjoy this uniquely Irish take on the classic tale. The company has added many special performance dates this year to accommodate the demand for tickets during the show's short run. Details about dates and times of all performances are available on Keegan's website at www.keegantheatre.com.

Set in a modern Dublin pub, AN IRISH CAROL is an homage to Dickens' classic - told as only the Irish can. The play, directed by Mark A. Rhea, is both comic and touching; it follows one evening in the life of David, a wealthy pub owner who has lost touch with his own humanity in the interest of self-protection and material success. But on this Christmas Eve - challenged by a voice from the past, provoked by those in this present, and faced with the reality of lonely future - David's life may change forever. An Irish Carol is a modern fable, told with the biting humor and incisive candor of its Irish playwright. This year, Keegan is delighted to introduce three new cast members to AN IRISH CAROL: Caroline Dubberly (NEXT TO NORMAL) takes on the role of Anna, previously played by Susan Marie Rhea, Matt Hirsh (NEXT TO NORMAL, DOGFIGHT) steps into the role of Simon, originated by Jon Townson, and Josh Adams (A FEW GOOD MEN) joins the cast as Bartek, inheriting the role from Josh Sticklin. Returning to the cast this year are AN IRISH CAROL regulars Mark A. Rhea, Timothy Lynch, Mick Tinder, Mike Kozemchak and Kevin Adams. AN IRISH CAROL opens on December 16 and runs through December 31, 2016. The press opening is December 19, 2016.
