Olney Theatre Center, the award-winning, year-round arts and entertainment destination, announces the opening of their upcoming production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical Cinderella. Cinderella runs on Olney Theatre Center's Mainstage from November 14 to December 30, 2012 with memorable songs such as "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible," and "Ten Minutes Ago".

The design team tackling the challenge of bringing this beloved tale to light is focusing on the fantastical and storybook nature of the story.

"The set has a magical quality. It's visually light and mobile. Many of the scenic elements incorporate the pumpkin vine/lace theme and transports us to different locations, both inside and outside, seamlessly," says Scenic Designer James Fouchard.

"In this production we have asked Eric Brooks to design a number of puppets that will add to the whimsical quality of the show," says Director Bobby Smith. "Cinderella's animal friends come to life and are characters of their own. We are very excited about the addition of these puppets."

Adding to the overall look of the production are Pei Lee's costumes.

"The villagers will be in warm and happy colors - almost like a Crayola party. While the royals and everyone at the ball is in elegant colors. I imagine them as delicate pastries with frosting on top," describes Ms. Lee.

The take on Cinderella's Stepsisters is something new too. "In many versions they are described as ugly, but I think of them as very fashion conscious...they just go overboard with it," continues Ms. Lee.

"As for Cinderella's magical dress, this is one that is sure to amaze young and old alike, but that's one surprise you'll have to see for yourself," says Mr. Smith.
