Altar Boyz Opens at 1st Stage
1st Stage, Tysons Corner's award winning professional theater, today announced the November 23 opening of the musical, "Altar Boyz," music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, book by Kevin del Aguila. The production at 1st Stage is directed by Steven Royal with musical direction by Walter Bobby McCoy and choreography by Jeremy McShan.
Hailed as "a perfect musical, no questions asked" (Theatremania), "Altar Boyz" is a foot-stomping, rafter-raising musical comedy about a fictitious boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham, all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio, try to save the world one screaming fan at a time. Packed with an extraordinary mix of side-splitting pop songs, uncontrollable laughs, sinfully spectacular dancing and a touching story, this award-winning musical is 90 minutes of pure delight. Altar Boyz will rock both sinner and saint of every age and denomination.

It was the winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical and the 2006 and 2007 Broadway.com Audience Favorite Award. After five years and 2032 performances, "Altar Boyz" closed Off-Broadway on January 10, 2010. There have been touring productions of "Altar Boyz" throughout the United States with both national and international resident productions in Chicago, Korea, Hungary, Finland, Australia, Montreal, and the Philippines.
