Olney Theatre Center, the award-winning, year-round arts and entertainment destination, announces the opening of The 39 Steps, a comedic twist on Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film thriller. Due to the high volume of advance ticket sales, Olney Theatre Center is proud to announce that the show has already been extended from its previous run date: The 39 Steps will run in Olney Theatre Center's Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab from April 18 to May 20, 2012.

The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the John Buchan novel, is about a man on the run, his world turned upside down, giving chase in a nationwide manhunt. After agreeing to take a mysterious woman home from the theatre, he finds himself accused of murder, embroiled in a international intrigue, and falling in love quite despite himself. Four actors take on the super human task of playing over 150 characters. Olney Theatre Center's Associate Artistic Director Clay Hopper, director of last year's hit Farragut North, helms the production.

"In addition to having everything people know and love about Alfred Hitchcock's British spy chase suspense-thriller," said Hopper, "This farcical treatment of the film is a rare celebration of both cinema and theatricality. The 39 Steps will have audiences rolling in the aisles and sitting on the edge of their seats. Not necessarily in that order."

"We are very pleased with the ticket sales we have already received for The 39 Steps," said Olney Theatre Center's Managing Director, Amy Marshall. "This is the first time we have extended a show two months before it has even opened."

The New York Times calls this two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award winner "Absurdly Enjoyable" and the Daily News says it's "A Dizzy Delight!" The 39 Steps was one the longest running comedies on Broadway.

Tickets start at $26, please contact the Olney Theatre Center Box Office at (301) 924-3400 to make reservations.
