Workhouse Arts Center 2025-2026 Season

The Workhouse Arts Center has unveiled its 2025/26 Performing Arts Season-four productions that swing from cult-camp to Sondheim, from a classic whodunit to a buoyant, family favorite. Staged at the intimate W-3 Theatre in Lorton, VA, the lineup is built to keep audiences coming back across the year with laughs, chills, and plenty of heart.

The season traces a fun arc: a gleefully gory fall opener, a fairytale mash-up for the holidays, a sleek spring mystery, and a splashy summer musical under the sea.

Evil Dead The Musical

Runs September 20 - November 1, 2025
The Workhouse pairs its popular Haunted Trail with a blood-soaked parody you can sing along to. Evil Dead The Musical gleefully crashes Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 into a tongue-in-cheek stage spectacle, complete with knowingly cheesy effects, earworm tunes, and more (fake!) blood than you'd think possible. Horror diehards and musical fans alike can expect a rowdy, laugh-til-you-scream night out.

Into the Woods

Runs December 20, 2025 - January 25, 2026
Sondheim and Lapine's Tony-winning favorite threads together the stories of Cinderella, Jack and his beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and a Baker and his Wife on a wish-filled trek that asks what comes after "happily ever after." Equal parts enchanting and clear-eyed, Into the Woods is a winter treat that balances wit, wonder, and the consequences of the choices we make.

Murder on the Orient Express

Runs March 6 - April 12, 2026
All aboard for a stylish puzzle box. Ken Ludwig adapts Agatha Christie's beloved thriller as Hercule Poirot untangles a murder aboard the glamorous Orient Express. A car full of suspects, a snowbound train, and razor-sharp revelations power this brisk, theatrical whodunit from first clue to final confession.

The SpongeBob Musical

Runs May 18 - June 14, 2026
Summer arrives in technicolor with a big-hearted adventure from Bikini Bottom. The SpongeBob Musical bursts with original songs by chart-toppers (including Sara Bareilles, Panic! At The Disco, Aerosmith, Cyndi Lauper, and more), as SpongeBob and friends band together to save their home. Zany, optimistic, and bursting with imagination, it's an all-ages celebration of community and courage.

"With this season, we're inviting audiences to share the wonder and joy of live theater to a wider audience," said Joseph Wallen, Workhouse Arts Center's Director of Performing Arts. "Our 2025/26 season is a celebration of the incredible variety of stories theater can share, and we're proud to present a lineup that truly offers something for everyone."

The Workhouse Arts Center's 2025/26 season represents a thoughtful balance of theatrical genres and audience appeal, reinforcing the venue's reputation as a cornerstone of Northern Virginia's cultural landscape. From the irreverent thrills of Evil Dead The Musical to the heartwarming spectacle of The SpongeBob Musical, this season promises to deliver memorable theatrical experiences that will resonate with both longtime subscribers and newcomers to live theatre. The diverse programming reflects the Workhouse's ongoing mission to make quality theatrical entertainment accessible while celebrating the transformative power of live performance.
