Lovingly "ripped" from the classic 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this musical romp features a book and lyrics by Eric Idle with music by John Du Prez and Idle. The show debuted on Broadway in 2005, earning fourteen Tony nominations and winning three, including Best Musical. Its 2023 Broadway revival at the St. James Theatre drew widespread acclaim for director and choreographer Josh Rhodes' inventive staging and the production's gleeful embrace of Python's signature wit.

The musical takes Python's beloved medieval absurdity and transforms it into a full-blown theatrical spectacle. Audiences will encounter all the iconic moments from the film—the Knights Who Say Ni, the Black Knight's stubborn refusal to admit defeat, and the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog—alongside fresh theatrical flourishes that make the story sing. The show gleefully breaks the fourth wall, pokes fun at Broadway conventions, and never takes itself too seriously, all while delivering genuinely catchy musical numbers.

The North American tour stars Major Attaway (Aladdin) as King Arthur, leading a talented ensemble through the quest for the Holy Grail—complete with flying cows, taunting Frenchmen, and one very dangerous rabbit. Amanda Robles takes on the role of The Lady of the Lake, while the cast includes Sean Bell as Sir Robin, Chris Collins-Pisano as Sir Lancelot, Ellis C. Dawson III as Sir Bedevere, and Leo Roberts as Sir Galahad.

Washington audiences can expect show-stopping numbers including the irrepressibly optimistic "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," the self-aware "The Song That Goes Like This," and the rousing "Find Your Grail." The production features scenic and projection design by Paul Tate DePoo III, costume design by Jen Caprio, and lighting design by Cory Pattak.

Monty Python's Spamalot plays at the Kennedy Center, located at 2700 F Street, NW, Washington, from December 16 through January 4. This marks one of more than 30 stops on the tour's first year, offering local theatre lovers a chance to experience Python's enduring comedy in a night of pure theatrical fun.
