This November, NextStop Theatre brings the spectacle and swagger of professional wrestling to the stage with The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Kristoffer Diaz's Pulitzer Prize-finalist satire. Produced in partnership with local theatre company Flying V and directed by Stefan Sittig, the production runs November 5-29, 2026, in Herndon, Virginia.

"This play has spectacle with a capital 'S'!" says NextStop Theatre Producing Artistic Director Heather Lanza. "Like professional wrestling, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity understands the joy and thrill that spectacle in entertainment can bring to its audiences. I love how this play uses spectacle and comedy to explore deeply important themes of stereotyping and representation-and what it means to walk away from a dream when it no longer aligns with your moral convictions."

Described by The New York Times as having "the delicious crackle and pop of a galloping, honest-to-God, all-American satire," The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity follows Macedonia "The Mace" Guerra, a gifted wrestler stuck being paid to lose to a bigger-named star. But when the cost of playing his assigned role becomes too great, Mace must confront what it means to reclaim his voice-and decide whether he is willing to risk everything to do so.

"What initially appears to be an outrageous comedy about professional wrestling becomes a sharp, deeply human examination of race, identity, cultural appropriation, and the business of representation," says director Stefan Sittig. "I'm drawn to stories that challenge dominant narratives and question who holds power. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity does that while delivering an exhilarating theatrical experience."

NextStop's production features Oscar Salvador, Jr. as Macedonia Guerra "The Mace"; John (Jack) Elmendorf as Everett K. Olson "EKO"; Tyler "T" Lang as Chad Deity; Vaibhav Taparia as Vigneshwar Paduar "VP"; and Christion Ty Edwards as The Bad Guy, Billy Heartland, and Old Glory. Marcus Martinez, Thomas Stratton, Joshua Oluwatofunmi Olujide, and Hansin Arvind serve as understudies for Mace, EKO, Chad Deity, and VP, respectively.

The creative team includes Stefan Sittig (Director), Melanie Kurtz (Stage Manager), Grisele Gonzalez (Scenic Designer), Imari "MARS" Pyle (Costume Designer), Sean Preston (Projections Designer), Maddie Southard (Lighting Designer), Marty Bernier (Props Designer), Lee Martinez Cruz (Sound Designer), Rachel Borczuch (Assistant Sound Designer), Brianna Goode (Assistant Director/Dramaturg), Franklin Ruiz (Technical Director), and Emma Smith (Lead Electrician).
