Hector, The Electric Kid Powers Up at GALA Hispanic Theatre

GALA Hispanic Theatre is bringing spark and imagination to its 50th anniversary season with the world premiere of Hector, The Electric Kid. This bilingual musical for young audiences, written by Salvadoran American playwright Cornelia Cody with music by Aldo Ortega, will light up the stage from October 18 through November 1, 2025, at GALA Theatre, located at 3333 14th Street NW. Directed by Mauricio Pita, the production promises to blend heart, humor, and high-voltage fun.

At the center of the story is Hector, a shy 10-year-old whose life takes an electrifying turn after an unexpected meeting with a wizard in his mother's auto shop. Suddenly charged with a shocking new ability, Hector discovers he is electric. What follows is a lively musical journey filled with song, dance, and the universal question: how do we find the courage to embrace who we are?The show features Ixchel Hernandez (Frida Libre, Quijote & Sancho Panza) as Hector, alongside Nadia Palacios (The Palacios Sisters) as Patricia/Mariana, Camilo Linares (Picasso, The Palacios Sisters) as Herman, Delbis Cardona (Once Upon a Time... And Two Are Three!) as Actor 5, and Camila Cossa, making her GALita debut, as Actor 4. The creative team includes scenic designer Matt Liptak, lighting designer Arthur Kohn, costume designer Rukiya Henry Fields, choreographer Gabriel Mata, and sound designer Angelica Huertas. Aldo Ortega not only composed the music but also serves as music director. Stage management is led by Solis Pettitt with Sherry Gonzalez as assistant stage manager.
Public performances are scheduled for Saturdays-October 18, October 25, and November 1-at 3 p.m. The 60-minute show is recommended for children ages 5 and up, making it an ideal family outing. In addition, school groups will have the opportunity to enjoy student matinees October 20-24 and October 27-31 at 10:30 a.m.
With its lively mix of bilingual storytelling, engaging music, and a powerful message about self-discovery, Hector, The Electric Kid is sure to shine as a family-friendly highlight of DC's fall theatre season.
