Constellation Theatre Company is kicking off its The Expanding Universe season with a wickedly funny twist on a classic horror icon. Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen lands at Atlas Performing Arts Center from January 23 through February 15, 2026, offering DC audiences a fresh excuse to embrace the dark of winter with something loud, giddy, and unapologetically theatrical.

In this version of Bram Stoker’s vampire legend, the familiar gothic chills get flipped into something brazenly ridiculous and irresistibly fun. The show revels in over-the-top camp, cheeky sensuality, and big comedic spectacle, with five performers rapidly morphing into a parade of characters. That shapeshifting ensemble style turns the story into a fast, physical, surprise-filled romp that’s as much about fearless comedy as it is about sending up the seductive mythology that has followed Dracula for generations.

Directed by Constellation’s Associate Artistic Director Nick Martin, the production features a compact cast of prominent DC actors who each play multiple roles throughout the evening. Noah Israel appears as Dracula, with Natalie Cutcher as Lucy, Sentell Harper as Harker, Julia Klavans as Mina / Van Helsing, and Ryan Sellers as Westfeldt / Renfield. The understudy team includes Dominique Gray, Sirra Faal, and Nicholas Temple, reflecting the company’s commitment to robust local talent and the demands of an ensemble-driven show where versatility is part of the fun.

Martin’s excitement for the piece captures why this title feels especially well-timed right now: “I’m chomping at the bit to jump into this madcap, comedic adventure with the exceptional team we’ve brought together,” he said. “Finding ways to laugh in the face of terrifying things is the best way to wrest control back, and we find ourselves in an excellent moment in time to put those skills to use. I’m so looking forward to joyous, side-splitting laughter with this delightful company all through the dark winter months ahead.” That mix of cathartic humor and playful reinvention aligns neatly with the spirit of The Expanding Universe season.

Performances take place at Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H St NE, Washington, DC. Known for telling bold stories in intimate settings and drawing from fantasy, farce, and epic adventure, Constellation seems perfectly matched to this gleefully warped take on Dracula. For audiences who love sharp ensemble work, high physicality, and a show that isn’t afraid to be delightfully unhinged, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors looks like a terrific way to start 2026 with a bite and a belly laugh.
