Macbeth's Midsummer Night's Dream
4508 Walsh Street Bethesda
This original play fuses modern absurdist drama and the classical tragedy of Shakespeare. It explores the evolution of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth from the Elizabethan era to the present day. The classical couple first murders their way to the crown, taking that initial step into "possibility" and planting an inescapable four-hundred-year seed of karma. That heavy tragedy is then dragged into a black comedy farce through a nether-world encounter, before shifting seamlessly into a contemporary middle-class living room. Here, Macbeth's cruelty is subtler, more ruthless, and devoid of bottom lines-above all, he has learned to rationalize it all.
