"...“It’s in the blood,” says Racine (Devin Nikki Thomas), speaking to the vengeful flow of violence that compels her and her twin sister Anaia (Morgan Danielle Day) to hunt down their malevolent father. It’s a grave observation that plucks at the mythic chords in Aleshea Harris’ Is God Is, now playing at Constellation Theatre Company under the direction of KenYatta Rogers. As in many great myths, the characters at times seemed trapped in their own personal hell—but at least this hell is hella funny."

"...Moreover, Rogers’ direction gets it. The intent is clear, even when the execution isn’t flawless or fluid, as, say, during a scene change when those screens don’t fold up fast enough. Amidst shadow puppets and amusing hip-hop dance interludes, including one hilariously faked lap dance, Is God Is manages moments of affecting intensity depicting the cursed violence inflicted by toxic parents on their children and the world."

"...Harris’ script is exceptional, there is no doubt. But with so much to tackle in this play, it is also easy to see where a production could go wrong. Thankfully, Rogers strikes balance between violence and comedy, and this 95-minute saga is fully wrought with action, emotion, and intrigue. Constellation’s production may be a little hazardous but it has a rare magnetism not to mention a drop-dead cast. "
