Falsettos is a universal story of the modern day family. It focuses on a man named Marvin who leaves his wife and young son to live with another man yet ends up alone. Two years later, Marvin is reunited with his lover on the eve of his son’s Bar Mitzvah, just as AIDS is beginning its insidious spread.

"...That makes "Falsettos" a musical for actors, and the Ganymede troupe acts well enough that this production will probably pass muster with Finn's fans. Johnson, Ganymede's artistic director, is not a big singer, but otherwise he's perfect as Marvin, the married man in love with a guy named Whizzer (Michael Sazanov). Marvin is simultaneously appealing and abrasive, and Johnson smoothly conveys the character's inner tango of compassion and selfishness."

"...Even if you’re familiar with William Finn’s off-Broadway trio of one-act musicals that threw together themes of love, AIDS, family, and a hearty helping of Jewish neuroticism, Ganymede’s solid black-box reprisal of Falsettos—which comprises Finn’s second and third musicals, penned with James Lapine—is still worth your time. For the rest of you, Falsettos is less about the sound of music and more about the sound of your parents trying to convince you to see a shrink after your dad leaves your mother for another man, and your mom leaves your dad for that aforementioned shrink."
