Duel Reality Reviews
Duel Reality

"...It's one of the most arresting sequences in this family-friendly extravaganza, a package of aerial and on-the-ground exploits with a few lines from the Bard tossed in for literary sheen. A production of the Montreal arts collective the 7 Fingers, the show doesn't offer much Shakespeare insight beyond the big-top-spectacle-as-fisticuffs metaphor. But in this staging by the troupe's co-founding artistic director Shana Carroll, a Tony nominee for her work on Broadway's "Water for Elephants," the stunts can be dazzling."

"...I'd say it's safe to assume that everyone reading this is familiar with the classic tale of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The infamous story of star-crossed lovers has been told time and again. There's a myriad of modern interpretations already out there. Although never has it been told in such a novel, thrilling, and collaborative approach as The 7 Fingers' production of Duel Reality, a show that beautifully blends death-defying acrobatics, modern dance, and theatrical storytelling to create something truly memorable."

"..."Duel Reality's" tagline, "never was a story of more whoa," a clever play on the final line of "Romeo and Juliet," perfectly encapsulates the experience of watching The 7 Fingers' take on one of Shakespeare's most produced pieces. Billed as a contemporary circus, the production spotlights the death-defying feats of ultra-talented artists whose pure, physical stamina and acrobatic ability add an incredible new layer to the saga of two warring houses both alike in dignity and the unfortunate lovers caught in the crossfire."

"...Duel Reality distills Shakespeare's epic love story to its essence: the conflict between the warring families and the connection of the young lovers across the chasm of the feud. Fusing cirque, theater and dance, the two clashing tribes battle it out in an acrobatic arena where death-defying stunts contrast with the passion and sweet connection of Romeo and Juliet."
