"...As the world reflects on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Ford’s Theatre presents a fitting commemoration with “Come From Away,” a captivating, cathartic musical based on the real-life events and experiences that followed that fateful day. Emotionally charged and poignant, the Tony Award-winning production, directed by Kevin S. McAllister and featuring the book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, tells the remarkable story of how the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed and took in nearly 7,000 stranded airline passengers after 38 planes were diverted there on September 11, 2001."

"...9:37am Tuesday September 11th 2001. The buzzer-bell that should have dismissed second period at Western School of Technology & Environmental Sciences, is two minutes late and instead, the voice of Principal Don Weglein comes on the intercom, excusing the interruption to classes, to state that two planes have crashed into The World Trade Center, classes are to be dismissed in an orderly fashion, and all students are to proceed to their next class or the cafeteria for lunch period, until further instructions are given."

"...It doesn't get more "ensemble piece" than this show; the blob of bodies is basically the character itself, the network of connection. It cycles through dozens of characters with its cast of 13, each somehow feeling different and famliar. This being said, there are singular performances that beget individual skill, such as Capt. Beverley Bass (a supercharged Housso Semon) and Laurence Redmond's Claude, the Mayor of Gander."

"...When horrific, paradigm-shifting events occur in the world, their aftermath unexpectedly reverberates in places and ways beyond the direct zone of impact. The attacks of September 11, 2001 were a prime example. Come From Away at Ford's Theatre recounts one such echo on that fateful day in Newfoundland, Canada - the northeast tip of North America. Digging into a vast array of individual stories from the day, this production is equal parts moving, humanizing, and at times even humorous."

"...It seems improbable that someone would look at September 11 and think it would be a good subject for a stage musical, but art heals and as we still feel the aftereffects of that day, especially as we have just passed the 25 year mark, Come From Away - though actually a story about Canada - is a powerful, soothing balm for the soul because it doesn't focus (much) on the tragedy, it shows that people are people and in tough times, no matter who we are or where we're from, we're all in the same boat and just the smallest bit of compassion makes all the difference."

"...In the wake of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 tragedy, on the tenth anniversary of its East Coast premiere at Ford’s Theatre, and in this moment of national divisiveness, this musical about kindness, care, and neighborliness is most needed — and this production of Come From Away delivers with a spirited joyousness."
