Beetlejuice Reviews
MD Theatre Guide- Highly Recommended
"...Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice…Be…. thrilled because the hit musical has returned home to DC’s National Theatre! Infused with the same zany screwball energy fans of the movie know and love, the national tour of the stage adaptation is a hysterical farce guaranteed to make your DAY-O. Though “Beetlejuice” the musical isn’t life changing high art, it’s fabulous fun. If you’ve been wondering how a show about death can leave you chuckling in your seat, this is for you."

"...Welcome to a show about death! Literally the first second number that bangs out from the stage into the house now that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice BEETLEJUICE!!! (the musical, for the love of God let's hope he doesn't appear in your living room or your car or your office board meeting- wherever you're reading this review!) has returned to The National Theatre in DC."

"...Beetlejuice has materialized at the National Theatre, bringing a boisterous blend of Broadway spectacle, supernatural silliness, and (surprisingly) sincere storytelling back to DC. Based on Tim Burton’s beloved cult classic, and newly energized by the blockbuster sequel, the musical is every bit as weird, witty, and wildly entertaining as fans could hope."

"...It's a little mixed when interleaving the sad and funny aspects of the story, although in general I think it leans more towards the silly parts — that's honestly not much of a problem for me, although it did mean that it felt that the emotionally powerful moments were more muted in general. Perhaps if they were seamlessly integrated it would be a masterpiece instead of just a really good time."

"...This is a production forever at war with itself: an irreverent, tasteless comedy fused to a grieving girl's earnest indie-rock musical. There is nothing wrong with a Broadway musical wishing to take on grief, especially in our death-avoidant culture. But grief deserves a better vehicle than a show with poop jokes."
