Bad Books Reviews
Washington Post- Recommended
"...Perhaps you can judge from the title "Bad Books" what that disagreement is about. When Twyford's character walks into the local library, voice clipped and chin high, the prickly exchange between her and Norris's funky and otherwise laid-back librarian quickly escalates into a confrontation. A novel with an objectionable title has found its way into the hands of her 15-year-old, and someone will have to be blamed."
MetroWeekly- Highly Recommended
"...A concerned mom in Sharyn Rothstein?s Bad Books raises a hell of a ruckus over a library book she deems obscene, but, in truth, neither her ensuing crusade nor Rothstein?s juicily enjoyable play are about bad books, whatever those might be."
Washington City Paper- Somewhat Recommended
"...The script would benefit from some keen dramaturgical editing, someone to push for moments of tempered realism, both in terms of tone and fact-checking. For example, Rothstein?s script says the play is set ?in an American suburb or small town with lax gun laws. So just about anywhere in the country.?"
Stage and Cinema- Highly Recommended
"...Nothing beats the thrill of watching great performers bring a playscript to life, moment to moment, right before your eyes, sharing their space as they breathe the same air you are breathing into their lines. The good news is that Bad Books at Round House Theatre in Bethesda, MD, is fueled by that kind of star power."
DC Theater Arts- Highly Recommended
"...Kate Eastwood Norris and Holly Twyford, two of the DC area's most accomplished actresses, square off against each other in Sharyn Rothstein's comedic drama Bad Books at Round House Theatre. It is the latest of many projects these two seasoned performers have shared, and Rothstein gives them a stunning and thoughtful piece to devour."
