The Stage Guild’s 25th anniversary is also the 150th of the Civil War, and this world premiere celebrates the one while acknowledging the latter. Playwright Webb was inspired by the true story of a woman whose determination to find her wounded husband led her to the horror of the Andersonville prison camp, and has created a vividly theatrical epic as Amelia’s quest spans a country in turmoil.

"... it will be apparent that Amelia will turn out to be a dark love story, and one that seems a whit over-reliant on coincidence, but there’s something about the passion Webb brings to the storytelling—and the craft and commitment he and Kaladjian bring to their performances—that makes it gripping. The play’s procession from county social to Confederate prison feels somehow inevitable, its unavoidable tragedy fully earned. After 90 minutes in a room with just two bodies on a stage, you leave with a head full of vivid pictures, indelible images of woman consumed by her purpose, and a nation consuming itself."

The two actors, Alex Webb and Shirleann Kaladjian, not only carried this show, they did it with very little set, no props, and just their passion and exceptional physical and vocal skills. Yet this simply presented production exemplifies the astonishing power of theatre to unexpectedly grab your heart and carry you off into an adventure of the soul.
