Aguardiente: Where Magic Transcends Borders Reviews
Aguardiente: Where Magic Transcends Borders
MD Theatre Guide- Somewhat Recommended
"...In this musical-within-a-musical, conceived by Luis Salgado and Daniel Gutiérrez (with book, lyrics, direction, and choreography by Salgado and music by Gutiérrez), the character producer functions like a human ChatGPT, filtering out words such as “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” in the name of marketability. He’s not just worried the show won’t sell, he’s worried it won’t be funded at all."
Morris Theatre DC- Not Recommended
"...Aguardiente is a musical that has a lot of noise at its core, and perhaps something heartfelt, too; but seldom is executed well enough to make it work."
BroadwayWorld- Highly Recommended
"...Bursting with vibrant strains of Afro-Cuban music and a spirited cast from many different Latin countries, “Aguardiente: Where Magic Transcends Borders” at once fulfulls the mission of the Spanish language theater showcasing the best of Latin performing arts from all quarters of the globe, while rising the bar of what they present."
DC Theater Arts- Not Recommended
"...Aguardiente: Where Music Transcends Borders, a world premiere musical commissioned by GALA Hispanic Theatre and conceived by Puerto Rican artist Luis Salgado and Colombian artist Daniel Alejandro Gutiérrez, unfortunately fails to embody the spirit it promises."
