"This is a story that's old as old, of how a girl turned straw into gold." When a poor miller brags that his daughter has a talent for spinning straw into gold, a greedy and zany King commands her to make gold for his coffers. Unable to perform this feat, the miller's daughter enlists the help of a rotten riddling fairy named Rumpelstiltskin...but his price for helping is high. Will she be able to solve Rumpelstiltskin's mystery in time to save her family?

DC Theater Arts - Highly Recommended

"...There is also a lot more character growth than in the original story- the characters learn valuable life lessons and thrive from it (well, most of them). I enjoyed a lot of these new directions, but I did feel that the exhaustive rhymed verse spoken by the fair folk overstayed its welcome a little bit. The ending (which involves a powerful fit of fury) can also be a bit overwhelming for younger children."

While Imagination Stage has produced a top-notch show—ingenious set, magical ambiance, quirky costumes, music and excellent actors—its decision to perform this “old as old” tale without taking modern liberties to turn the script of this straw fable into a true pot of gold disturbs me.
