"...Despite the sinister ambiance and grim focus, there is humor in the production, which is the Rogues’ first full-scale effort outside of the Capital Fringe Festival. Cieslewicz’s Hunter is a brash showoff, but he is also a little goofy, and he turns up at a Halloween dance in ridiculous-looking crusader garb, complete with chain-mail hood. (Jesse Shipley designed the show’s expressive costumes.) While emphasizing the pathos of Lucy’s situation, Graves also brings out the funny side of the character’s awkwardness."

"...Costume designer Jenny Shipley dresses the three-woman chorus as high-school archetypes by way of John Hughes-the cheerleader, the preppy girl, the punk-uniforms she wisely doesn't bother to change when they're playing male bullies. One of these weird sisters, Natalie Curcher-she's the cheerleader-has a way of letting her head lull to one side while keeping her eyes fixed straight ahead that makes her seem more like a possessed doll than a self-governing human. It's perfect for the part."

"...In the Forest, She Grew Fangs, written by Stephen Spotswood and produced by The Washington Rogues, is a dark journey into the adolescent psyche. As an audience we are taken on a wild ride through the minds and hearts of several teenagers growing-up in small town America. While these teenagers may at first seem typical, they end up being all but average in a thrilling twist that has audience members on the edge of their seats. Spotswood’s language is lyrical and poetic, and manages to delicately balance the tough and relevant subject matter of bullying with priceless comedic timing and moments of levity."

Good theater can sometimes grab you by the throat, but rarely does it drag you from your bed and leave a bloody trail to the open window. Rarer still can this gruesome scene leave you pensive, even laughing. In the Forest, She Grew Fangs, written by Stephen Spotswood and directed by Ryan Taylor, hits the mark with a horror show that is funny, thoughtful and timely, as well as spot on for a season fit for ghosts and ghouls.
