A comedy of misunderstanding that transforms into something much deeper, acclaimed British playwright Terrence Rattigan's In Praise of Love explores those times when unkindness is the kindest thing. Based on the real-life relationship between actors Rex Harrison and Kay Kendall, the work dives into a seemingly fractured family whose ties to each other are deeper than any of them realize. Since its debut in London more than 40 years ago, the play has been performed thousands of times, including a Broadway run in which Harrison played the role that was based on him.

"...It all becomes so much a garrulous setup for the play’s poignant Big Reveal, which is likely to leave some theatergoers feeling manipulated. One can admire the Stage Guild for taking a second look at a once-successful play that, like Sebastian’s Gibbon edition, has been gathering dust. But this production is unlikely to launch a local Rattigan renaissance."

"...In Praise of Love examines the life of the Cutwell family–Lydia (Julie-Ann Elliott), the bright and bubbly (and ailing) former Estonian resistance member; her crotchety literary critic husband Sebastian (Conrad Feininger); their idealistic son Joey (Christopher Herring); and their multimillionaire novelist friend Mark (Steven Carpenter). Called to the small Islington flat from Hong Kong at Lydia’s insistence, Mark is the only one who bears witness to the total emotional anarchy of the Cutwell household–Lydia is dying, and has determined that her husband, barely capable of tying his own shoes, and her son, merely twenty, shall never know. Mark is left as both Lydia and Sebastian’s sole confidant."
