Elling is 40, suffers from autism, and has lived with his mother most of his life. Kjell is sex-crazed and simpleminded. In the whimsical comedy Elling, these two unlikely roommates must transition from an asylum to a shared apartment in Oslo, where a series of offbeat adventures unfolds. As the misfits learn to cope with life on the outside, Elling finds strength in writing poetry, his untapped literary ambition becoming a strange and moving pathway to leading a normal life. Produced by the acclaimed Washington Stage Guild, Elling is a stage adaptation of a series of novels by the internationally renowned Norwegian author Ingvar Ambjornsen. A movie version of this material was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002.
